This is a sample chapter from the 2016 Pre-Snap Reads Quarterback Catalogue. You can order the book for $9.99 here.
Sam Bradford was chosen as the first sample chapter for a couple of reasons, but it mostly just made sense because of the inconsistent season he had, how polarizing a player he can be and his impending free agency. Bradford is one of 35 quarterbacks who were written up in the book. The 35 is made up of any quarterback who threw 250 or more passes as well as quarterbacks of interest who didn’t, Colin Kaepernick and Johnny Manziel.
Each chapter varies in length. Quarterbacks who missed games are likely to have shorter chapters, while quarterbacks who had more interesting seasons or threw up some surprising results will obviously deserve more detail.
It should be noted that the sack breakdown at the bottom of the chapter won’t always align with the sack total at the top. This is because the NFL counts some plays as sacks where the QB was running from the start and they also count plays that go for no gain as sacks, whereas this book requires the sack to lose yardage and it must have come when the quarterback was initially looking to throw the ball.
The book was compiled by watching every snap for every one of the 35 quarterbacks for the full 2015 season. It begins with sections that outline the stats that were tracked, before digging deep into each individual quarterback to gain a better understanding of how those stats came about on the field.
